Legacy Ballet will perform the classic holiday production of “The Nutcracker” at Linn-Benton Community College’s Russell Tripp Performance Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany, Dec. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Set to become an annual tradition in Albany, Legacy Ballet brings the magic of “The Nutcracker” to Linn and Benton counties for its first full-length production, in partnership with LBCC’s Russell Tripp theater . Legacy’s performance will feature adult and children dancers from the community. Established in Albany in 2008, the dance company offers ballet, jazz, hip-hop, modern and tap dance for ages three through adult. Tickets are $12 general admission. LBCC's Benton Center Holiday Pottery Sale will be held Friday, Dec. 7, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the center's ceramics studio, 757 NW Polk Ave., Corvallis. Shop local for your holiday pottery gifts and help support the LBCC ceramics studio. Ceramics faculty, students and instructional assistants offer raku, high fire, salt fire and wood fire pieces for sale including vessels, vases, decorative items, usable tableware and small sculptures. "Place & Time," Frossene King "Mobil Homes," Andy Myers “Place,” a multi-media exhibit by Corvallis artists Frossene King and Andy Myers, is on exhibit in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, in Albany, through Dec. 7. Linn-Benton Community College will hold classes for non-native speakers of English beginning the week of Jan. 7. Learn to speak, read, and write English in an encouraging environment. Orientation sessions begin Dec. 3 at the LBCC Benton Center, 757 NW Polk Ave, Corvallis and Dec. 4 at LBCC’s Luckiamute Center, 6500 SW Pacific Blvd, Albany campus. Both day and evening orientation sessions and classes will be offered on both campuses. "Comedy Syndicate," LBCC Performing Arts students, to perform improv at the Albany Eagles Club Nov. 17. The improv sketch comedy ensemble “Comedy Syndicate” will perform Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Albany Eagles Club , 127 NW Broadalbin Street. The Linn-Benton Community College choirs will perform “A World in Harmony” Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center , Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Conducted by LBCC director of choral activities, James Reddan, the performance includes the Concert Choir, Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir, Women’s Ensemble, and the a cappella groups Blue Light Special and The Sirens. Diana Hancock will accompany on piano.  The concert also features more than 150 musicians in one of the largest collaborations between singers and instrumentalists at LBCC including brass orchestra, percussion, string quartet and piano. “There is truly something for everybody,” said Reddan. “We certainly hope you will join us in welcoming the seasons and celebration!”

Mike McLaren Blues musician Mike McLaren will perform at the LBCC Benton Center Acoustic Showcase on Friday, Nov. 16 from noon to 1 p.m. in the center’s student lounge, 757 NW Polk Ave., Corvallis. A local musician and music instructor, McLaren plays acoustic blues said to take you down the midnight crossroads on the strings of his guitar. LBCC is offering two free Pharmacy Technician Program pre-application information sessions for those interested in training to work as a Pharmacy Technician. The sessions will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. No need to preregister to attend. Attendance at the information session is mandatory in order to take the program. The 18-week Pharmacy Technician Program starts Feb. 4 and runs through June 14, 2013. Skill areas covered include customer service, pharmacy math, pharmacy laws and rules, pharmaceutical vocabulary, prescriptions, billing, insurance, industry software, pharmacology and on-the-job training. The 33rd Annual Bob Ross Open Invitational Nature Photography Show will be held at Linn-Benton Community College on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Forum building, room F-104, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. This is a free, non-juried show and is open to anyone to attend, weather you are showing photographs or just want to see what others are doing in the field. This year’s theme is “Interspecies Interactions, or Evidence of Animals.” Nature for this purpose is defined as plants, animals, landscapes, rocks, clouds, water or anything else that one finds in nature and that lacks any evidence of humans. No architecture, vehicles, hot air balloons or backpackers, ect. Nature photographers from throughout the Willamette Valley gather each year on this occasion to celebrate nature and share their experiences, techniques, favorite places and things to see. Two free Veterinary Assistant Program information sessions will be held at Linn-Benton Community College for those interested in training to become a Veterinary Assistant. These pre-application sessions will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to Noon, and Thursday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the LBCC Albany campus, Calapooia Center, room, CC-212. Ceramic artist Stephen Mickey will hold a lecture and workshop at the LBCC Benton Center , 757 Polk Ave. NW, Corvallis Nov. 16 & 17. Mickey, a former Mt. Hood Community College ceramics instructor and creator of the Soulgama wood-fire kiln, will give a free slide show lecture of his work Friday, Nov. 16 from 7 to 8 p.m. in room BC-244. On Saturday, Nov. 17, Mickey will demonstrate his clay techniques in a workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Benton Center ceramics studio, room BC-140. A presentation of original poetry and watercolors by Rita Cavin, former Linn-Benton Community College president will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. in the college Library Reading Room, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Using poetry and watercolor, Cavin, a Corvallis resident, creates travel journals of the places and people she visits. The program highlights journals she created while in Morocco, India, Baja California, Ireland and Spain.  Cavin was the sixth president of LBCC, retiring in 2010. Since retiring, she has served on community college boards, and as interim president at Umpqua Community College from November 2010 to May 2011. The presentation is free and open to the public. A free Diabetes Symposium will be held at Linn-Benton Community College on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Commons cafeteria, second floor of the Calapooia Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW., Albany. Diabetes experts will present information on self-management, and a product fair will feature diabetes equipment, services and free healthy snacks. Keynote speakers include Dr. Sarah Swarts with Samaritan Internal Medicine; Jay Hewitt , an athlete who became the first person with diabetes to qualify for the U.S. National Triathlon team; and Monica Whipple, certified Arthritis Foundation instructor.  The symposium is free and open to the public and co-sponsored by LBCC Albany Community Education and Samaritan Health Services .
